Whatever you thought of previously when you heard the words ‘line dancing’, please put those words aside and be prepared to embrace Modern Line Dancing in the twenty-first century. It’s great fun, friendly and healthy too.

Traditional Line Dancing – previously called American Line Dancing – became very popular in the UK way back in the 80s and 90s and was done mainly to country music.

But it’s all changed since then, and Modern Line Dancing is so popular now. You will go to a dance class and hear a vast choice of music being played from the 50s right through to the present day. You could well find yourself dancing – and humming – to artistes such as

Barbra Streisand, Elvis, Ne-Yo, Bobby Darin, Dusty Springfield, Queen, Billy Fury, Elton John, Take That, Wham, Adele, JLS, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Bee Gees, Alexander Burke, Status Quo, Cee Lo, Lady Gaga, Beatles, Bruno Mars, Enrique Englasias, Plan B, etc.

Much of the dance movements have evolved from those early days too. The range of steps and movement go right across most dance genres, so when dancing you could also be using steps from Latin, Jive, Salsa, Ballroom, Street Dance, Hip-Hop, Swing, & Riverdance

If you haven’t danced before, don’t feel daunted at the prospect of taking up Modern Line Dancing. Week by week your experienced instructor will take you through the steps and routines slowly. Having mastered the basics, you will find that you want to learn more. After a while you will be so pleased you’ve developed new skills.

And it doesn't matter too much if every step isn't perfection. You're still getting a nice work-out, even when you're taking the wrong steps - which means they are the right steps, just not always in the right order! You don't even need to join in every dance and could take a break at any time and help yourself to a refreshing tea or coffee from the kitchen.

So be sure to tell your friends about your Modern Line Dancing class. Bring a friend and you’ll enjoy double the fun time.
